Does Fidgeting Counter the Harmful Effects of Sitting?

What happens when you are sitting all day?  Do you fidget?  You might be doing something that is actually good for your health!  If you fidget it counts as exercise, no matter how slight.  The best part – scientists will agree!

When we are sitting behind our desks in our chairs fidgeting, which is sometimes referred to as “dynamic sitting” by researchers, it actually burns calories.

Besides that, many worry about other medical issues when sitting for along periods of time.  Blood flow in our legs could potentially slow which could lead to other complications.  Dynamic sitting prevents being sedentary at a desk, therefore lessening one of the more problematic issues.  NYT, Gretchen Reynolds fills in all the details in “Does Fidgeting Counter the Harmful Effects of Sitting?”
