The Aging Spine
ONS reports that the incidence of lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is estimated at 8-11% of the population of the United States, with some 2.4 million Americans expected to be affected by 2021. Many of these patients experience or will experience considerable pain.
Spinal Stenosis is the gradual result of wear and tear on the spine associated with aging. It is often accompanied by a burning pain that starts in the buttocks and radiates down the leg (sciatica) and increases while walking. Non-operative treatments include activity modification, physical therapy, and a targeted program of spinal stenosis modified exercises.
