WellSpring Writers Series: The Master Stone Carver of Rushmore

Storyteller Lou Del Bianco will speak at The Osborn about the legacy of his grandfather, Luigi Del Bianco, the chief carver on our nation’s greatest memorial, Mount Rushmore. The event is part of the The Osborn’s WellSpring series; it is free and open to the public. It will take place at The Osborn on Tuesday, February 6 at 3:30 pm in advance of Presidents Day. It is free and open to the public. Copies of the book will be available to purchase for $20 (check or cash). To RSVP, call 914-925-8218 or email RSVP@theosborn.org.

The event is designed to appeal to inquiring minds of all ages. The younger Del Bianco uses authentic photos, timelines and primary source documents to bring Luigi’s story to life. More information about Luigi’s life can be found at https://www.luigimountrushmore.com.

The presentation culminates with designer Gutzon Borglum’s praise of Luigi, the 25 year struggle to get him recognized and the CBS SUNDAY MORNING tribute where a plaque at Mount Rushmore is finally unveiled. Now a published book authored by Lou, “Out of Rushmore’s Shadow” is a dramatic and touching story about Luigi’s legacy and the immigrant struggle.
