The harmful effects loneliness and social isolation can have on health, particularly among older adults has been well researched. It can increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes, dementia and even suicide attempts. It can also lead older adults to discontinue simple daily activities such as bathing, grooming and cooking. NYT, Jane Brody researched in “The Surprising Effects of Loneliness” that it’s also not limited to just one age group.
