Ten residents of The Osborn’s Pavilion Skilled Nursing Facility took a trip to The Bronx Zoo this week to visit the animals and enjoy the mild autumn weather in the 265-acre zoological park.
The trip was organized by The Osborn’s Director of Life Enrichment, Lisa Ott. Residents, touring by wheelchair, were accompanied by 14 staff members, including Life Enrichment staff, nurses, certified nurse assistants, and the Chief Operating Officer, Chris Ferreri.
The group started its visit with lunch at the Dancing Crane cafeteria under the watchful eye of Registered Dietician, Pippa Purdy, before heading out to visit the Zoo’s many displays. The animals did not disappoint; residents were able to enjoy seeing giraffes, lions, zebra, bears, flamingos, and even witnessed a snapshot of gorilla family dynamics in one of the many beautiful, simulated habitats.
The tour culminated with a spin around on the Bug Carousel, the classic merry-go-round music evoked memories for a few residents who shared stories about their children and grandchildren.
“The day was a great success,” said Pavilion Administrator, Yvette Allen, who was with the group all day. “The Osborn believes in the importance of giving residents many opportunities to explore the world around them. Engaging with the environment is one dimension of our WellSpring program, a holistic approach to helping residents live their lives to the fullest.”
