Alzheimer's Association Board Chair Barry Meiselman reported at the retreat: "We are pleased to say that we have recently been awarded three grants totaling $1.85 million from New York State, signaling an upward trend in our ability to provide programs and services.” He added, “Because of this momentum, we have been able to increase our staff and double the number of care and support interactions we offer.”
There are 40,000 people living with Alzheimer’s disease in the region served by the Hudson Valley chapter, including Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester counties. The chapter’s mission is “to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research, to provide and enhance care and support for all affected and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.”
“There are more than 5 million people living with Alzheimer’s disease in this country; it is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, and there currently is no cure,” said Senior Field Director of Chapter Relations Dave Grams, who came from the Alzheimer’s Association national headquarters in Chicago to attend the retreat.
